Gold and White Felt Christmas Tree Ornament

Welcome welcome, y'all, to the first of TWELVE days of handmade Christmas ornaments! This series, organized by Linda from It All Started With Paint, is going to be awesome. We're kicking off the series with a cute little felt Christmas tree ornament!

Supplies:

• White felt
• Gold glitter scrapbook paper
• Christmas tree ornament size guide from This Heart of Mine
• Scissors
• Pencil/pen
• Baker's twine* or embroidery thread
• Needle
• Miniature jingle bell
• Hot glue gun
• Small wood craft pieces

First, start by using the printable size guide to cut out the squares of felt and gold scrapbook paper. Math is definitely not my strong suit, but thankfully Amy from This Heart of Mine already did all the hard work for us already by creating the guide for the number and sizes of squares you'll need of the felt for this craft :).

I modified the guide a bit for my version of the Christmas tree, so you won't need the first two 1/2 inch squares that she used for the star, but you will need one extra square in each size of the glitter scrapbook paper. That makes seven total of each size square.

Once I finished cutting out all the squares, I stacked them up to make sure the size and proportions looked right since felt can come in different weights, and I didn't want it to look too fat or skinny!
My felt was pretty light weight - it's just the standard kind from the craft section (mine was from Michael's). The proportions all looked good, so I continued onto the next step.

Grab the baker's twine (or embroidery thread), needle and the miniature jingle bell. Cut a length of the twine that's about four times the height of the Christmas tree. Thread the needle with the twine and then add the bell to it. Thread the baker's twine back through the needle. Sew the gold and felt squares together starting from the smallest and working your way down to the bottom. Phew! That's hard to explain in words, so I made a handy diagram below the next photo :).

Tie the thread off the on the bottom and clip it short. Hot glue two of the small wood craft pieces to the knot of thread on the bottom to make the trunk.

Lastly, twist the felt and gold squares around to make the final product look less pyramid-like and more tree-like. Then you're done!

That's one adorable Christmas tree ornament if I do say so myself. I like the bling that the gold glitter scrapbook paper adds to it. It's a simple, modern ornament - perfect for any Christmas tree!
